Staying Active On Thanksgiving Day: Fitness In The Kitchen

So much of Thanksgiving Day involves sitting on a couch, at the dinner table, in the kitchen. And considering all the food you are eating, you should not sitting all day! So today I am going to give you a few tips on how to stay active with your friends and family this holiday.

Here are some fun (and silly) ways to stay fit while you are stuck in the kitchen prepping your holiday meals. If you are more of a party-goer than a host, you can do these exercises with your friends and family as you watch football and parades all day.

Parade squats
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade is one thing that I watched every year with my family. Turn the parade into a “drinking game” style workout game! Every time the announcers say Macy’s or Thanksgiving – do 10 squats. Your legs will burn, but it will be a fun way to bring the family together for fitness!

Dancing chef
Grab the family, put on some music, and turn holiday prep into a dance party!

Arm workout with the canned food
Bicep curls, shoulder presses, side raises are all easy to do with the canned cranberries. While the food is in the oven take some time to do a little circuit!

Burpee celebration
Make those football games a little more interactive. Every time your team scores do burpees! Every time the opposing team scores do push-ups! How many reps should you do? The score of course! If your team just scored their second touchdown, do 14 burpees! Let the games begin!

Play a game of actual Hot Potato
Don’t use a cooked potato, because that is dangerous. But play hot potato with those spuds before you make your mashed potatoes. Make it more active by jogging in place while you wait for the potato to come your way.

Prep and Lunge
Do lunges and calf raises while you get all pretty for you company. Brush your teeth while you do calf raises and do lunges while you dry your hair. On a busy day like Thanksgiving, you have to make the most of your time. So multitask exercise and primping.
